Need Help Choosing a GPU Upgrade for My Boyfriend

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on a birthday gift for my long-distance boyfriend. I want to surprise him with a big GPU upgrade since he's currently using an NVIDIA GTX 1660. However, I'm pretty lost when it comes to PC parts since I'm a PS5 player and can't check his specs directly. The only thing I remember is that he has an AMD Ryzen 5 1600X CPU.

My initial thought was to get him the RTX 5060 Ti (16GB) since it fits my budget and would be a huge step up. But I'm super worried about potential bottlenecking because I don't know his motherboard, PSU, or case model. I want to make sure he can just install it and game without any hassle!

I'm thinking about a combo gift that includes a compatible CPU upgrade to help avoid any issues. Would a Ryzen 5 5600 or a 5700X3D be a good pairing with the 5060 Ti? Would he need a whole new platform, which would make this gift much pricier? I'd love your insights! Thanks a ton for the help!

A Ryzen 5 5600 paired with the 5060 Ti sounds like a solid upgrade! Your boyfriend's motherboard might support both options, but the 5700X3D is pretty much out of stock and priced way higher than it should be. If you can’t find his motherboard or PSU details, that makes it tricky to ensure compatibility, though. Maybe see if anyone can check his PC for you? Just to be safe!

I wish I could, but that's a no-go. I've only managed to get bits about his setup from peeking at his specs in a game launcher a while back.

Honestly, the Ryzen 5 5600 should work great with the 5060 Ti. If you can, get him to send over his DxDiag.txt – it gives you detailed specs without him catching on. But be careful; I know you want to keep the surprise!
