Can I Use My Motherboard Video Output with a Dedicated GPU Installed?

I have an RTX 2060 Super and a Ryzen 5 5600G. My VGA to HDMI adapter just broke, and I can't get a new one since all the stores are closed. Is it possible to plug the monitor's VGA into the motherboard while having the graphics card installed? Is it safe to do that?

Yes, you can switch to using the integrated graphics in BIOS if needed. Just make sure to install the integrated GPU drivers too. It's safe as long as you set it up correctly in the BIOS.

Thanks, man! I’ve seen that option in the BIOS and just wanted to make sure it's safe.

You can do that, but just a heads up, it might be a bit tricky during boot. Sometimes it defaults to using the dedicated graphics card first. So, you might need to change that in the BIOS if it doesn't detect the onboard one first.

Glad I got it fixed before it broke completely! Just double-checking it won't cause any issues for my GPU.

Yeah, you can definitely plug your monitor into the motherboard without removing the graphics card. Most motherboards will automatically detect the iGPU and switch to it, so it shouldn't be an issue. Some newer boards even let you use the dedicated GPU through the motherboard's ports, but that might not apply to your AM4 setup.

No problem at all, it's perfectly safe to connect it this way.
