Seeking High Performance Build for Coding and Computational Tasks

I'm looking to build a high-performance machine tailored for coding and computational tasks, so no gaming-related advice please! My main requirements are to have a lot of high-speed RAM, specifically considering either 2x48GB or 2x64GB sticks with speeds of 6000MHz or more. I'm aware that going for 4 sticks might lead to underclocking, so I'm pretty set on this configuration.

Currently, I'm eyeing the Intel Ultra 7 265K for its great value, but I'm open to good AMD alternatives for strong multicore performance. I'm also ready to invest in a quality motherboard to support this setup, so any specific suggestions would be appreciated. It's crucial for me to maintain high RAM speed and capacity since I plan to use Ubuntu 24 most of the time, with Windows occasionally. While I'm not looking to get a GPU right now, I'd like the option to add one later. Any recommendations on components that fit these criteria?

For a build focused on coding and computation, I'd suggest looking into an AMD Ryzen 9 or even a Threadripper for some serious multicore power. If you're building it yourself, you could also explore Xeon or Epyc processors for workstation-level performance, especially if you're able to get them through business channels at a discount. Just ensure that whatever motherboard you select can handle your desired RAM configuration and speed! If you're not in a hurry for a GPU right now, these CPUs will still offer fantastic performance without it.

If you're considering high RAM speeds, you might want to look into the AMD AM5 platform. While some leaks suggest it might be short-lived, it still offers solid options for the future, especially if you won't upgrade in the next 4+ years. Just keep in mind that the official AMD specs for RAM frequency can cap at 5600MHz, while Intel can go higher. If that’s your priority for HPC tasks, you might find Intel's offerings more appealing, especially since they can be more cost-effective too. It's a good balance of price and performance for your needs!
