Which CPU Should I Choose for My New Build?

I'm upgrading my PC and have chosen the Intel Arc B580 GPU (specifically the ASRock Steel Legend). Now, I need to pick a new CPU, and I'm torn between the Ryzen 5 5500 priced at $87 and the Ryzen 5 5600 at $119. I mostly play games like League of Legends, Marvel Rivals, Fortnite, PEAK, R.E.P.O., and Battlefield 6. I'd prefer to keep my budget low if possible. Here's my current setup for reference:

- CPU: Ryzen 3 3100
- Mobo: MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX
- GPU: Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB
- RAM: 32 GB DDR4-3200
- Storage: 500 GB M.2 and 1TB SSD
- Case: Corsair 275R Airflow
- PSU: CoolerMaster MWE Gold 650w

Thanks for any advice!

Go for the 5600. I’ve noticed that the Arc GPUs work better with stronger CPUs. Don't skimp on the CPU; it really makes a difference!

I recommend the 5600 for gaming, but keep in mind that the Arc B580 has had some issues with Zen 3 processors. Just a heads up!

I was unaware of this; is it due to the drivers or the hardware?

For gaming, the 5600 is definitely the better option. The 5500 has less cache and is only slightly better than the older Ryzen 3000 series CPUs. You're going to want the extra performance from the 5600 for the games you play.

Wow, I was not aware of that. Thanks for your input!

I'd go with the 5600. It's about 5-10% faster and the main benefit is that it supports PCI Express Gen 4, which can give you better performance if you're using a Gen 4 NVME or GPU. The 5500 is decent, but if you can afford the 5600, it’s worth it!
