I'm trying to set up a quick launch for my commonly used programs directly in the Linux Mint start menu. I'm not a fan of having a million icons cluttering the taskbar, and I really want to streamline my workflow. I use Cinnamon Mint and I'm pretty new to Linux, so any insights would be super helpful!

What version of Mint are you using, and are you on Cinnamon, XFCE, or MATE? You might want to check the settings because there should be an option for that. If you want more customization, consider tools like Docky or Plank to design your dock, but I totally get not wanting more taskbar icons!
Maybe try configuring your favorites in the start menu? You can set the favorites to show up initially. It should be there under settings in the menu options.
Another option is using something like dmenu or rofi for launching apps quickly, which can be a bit more streamlined than navigating through the start menu. Just thought it might help since you might be looking for something different.
I remember from using MATE that you can set things up to show favorites right away when you click the menu. I bet Cinnamon has similar functionality, but maybe they’re hidden behind some settings. Have you tried right-clicking on the app in the menu and favoriting it? You might have to replace the default menu with alternate ones available in Cinnamon for a different look.
I did that, but it looks like I still have to click around to see my favorites. That just feels unnecessary! I want everything visible right away, not hidden behind buttons.
Exactly! The default setup can feel pretty clunky. Maybe explore the alternatives more? I’m honestly still figuring things out myself.

I'm using Cinnamon Mint, but honestly, I just want a clean desktop without all those taskbar icons. Docky isn't even in the software manager, and Plank just ends up looking like another taskbar. What I really want is to have a clean start menu experience.
