I'm not super tech-savvy, so I'm hoping for some advice here. A friend gave me a supposed 2TB hard drive to help with my slow laptop. I transferred my Steam files to it, but they ended up getting corrupted. My friend suggested I factory reset the drive and test it with H2testW to check if the storage was legitimate. When I left it running overnight, it didn't finish properly, and now the drive is completely unusable. I'm wondering: did I end up with a fake 2TB HDD, or did something go wrong with the test? I really wanted to use this drive for my games since it seemed faster than my laptop's SSD. What do you think?

Have you tried formatting the drive before using it? Also, which brand and model is it? That info could help diagnose the problem.
It sounds like the drive might be real, but it’s definitely not reliable. If it has a write speed of less than 5 MiB/s, it's on its last legs. I wouldn’t trust it for storing important files.
Yeah, I guess I’ll just go back to using my laptop's SSD for some games.
