I'm looking to upgrade my old PC by adding a new SSD for better performance, specifically for Windows and my main games. I'd like to continue using my existing HDD for extra storage but I'm unsure about the best method to transfer Windows and a few games from my HDD to the new SSD. Should I do a fresh install of Windows on the SSD instead? Also, will I need to buy a new license key for that? Any simpler solutions are welcome!

You've got a variety of options for cloning software. Just clone your boot drive onto the SSD, then set your computer to boot from the SSD. It's pretty straightforward!
Be careful with some software though; many can compromise your data or aren't reliable. Booting up Linux and using the DD command is a safer route if you’re comfortable with it.
You can just clone your HDD to the new SSD! If you have Windows 10 or newer, you won't need to buy a new license key either. The activation is linked to your motherboard, so as long as you reinstall the same version of Windows and your motherboard stays the same, it should activate once you connect to the internet.
For cloning, can I just clone Windows, or the whole HDD? My HDD is 2TB, but I'm only getting a 500GB SSD.
If you're looking for extra storage, consider getting two SSDs instead of sticking with the HDD. HDDs are slower and more prone to failure. If you want to continue using your HDD, I'd suggest wiping it clean and doing a fresh Windows install on the SSD. But if you have valuable data, there are complex cloning methods to ensure nothing gets lost. What's the size of your new SSD and HDD again?
I have a 2TB HDD and I'm planning to get a 500GB SSD.
Most SSD brands provide free cloning software. Acronis is a good choice; just create an account, use it for 30 days, and follow the prompts carefully.
Thanks for the info!

Thanks a lot!
