How Do I Replace My GPU from a 3080 to a 5070?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to swap out my current GPU, which is a GeForce RTX 3080, for a new GeForce RTX 5070. I have a suitable power supply but I'm not very experienced with this sort of hardware replacement. Can someone walk me through the steps? I was thinking of uninstalling the device from the device manager, unplugging the 3080, plugging in the 5070 (does it install itself once I plug it in?), and then updating the GeForce drivers. Is that the right approach? Thanks in advance for any help or tips!

You're on the right track! Just make sure your computer is completely unplugged before you start swapping parts. But honestly, I think the 5070 might not be the best upgrade. It’s about 10% faster than the 3080 and only has 2GB more VRAM. You might want to consider returning it and saving up for a 5070 Ti or a 9070 XT which would give you a way better performance boost!

You don’t really need to worry about the device manager part. Just unplug your PC, swap the cards, and update the drivers after you plug the new one in. Simple as that!

That would be great!

Just turn off your PC, take out the old card, install the new one, and power it back on. It should work without any issues!

Love that, thank you!

I’d recommend uninstalling the Nvidia drivers for your old card first. Then you can plug in the new one and download the latest drivers for it from Nvidia’s website. Forget about the device manager; it’s not necessary. This is what I did when I upgraded from a 3070 Ti to a 5070 Ti and it worked perfectly!
