Is My Gaming PC Underperforming?

I've put together what I think is a solid gaming rig, but I'm having some issues getting good frame rates in games. Here's my build:

- **Processor:** Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz
- **RAM:** 32.0 GB - CORSAIR Vengeance RGB PRO (2x16GB) DDR4 3600
- **Storage:** 1TB Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus, plus a 233GB SSD
- **Graphics Card:** NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER (12 GB)
- **Motherboard:** TUF Z390-PLUS GAMING (WIFI)

I'm running at a resolution of 1440p with three monitors active, but I'm struggling to hit 144fps in games like Path of Exile 2 and Warhammer Darktide, often stuck in the 50-80 fps range at medium to high settings. It feels like my build should perform better. Is there a bottleneck somewhere? Should I consider upgrading anything? Thanks in advance for any tips!

From my experience as a fellow i9 9900K owner, I can tell you that the CPU might be your main bottleneck. It's a solid chip, but it's been around since 2018, and newer games can really push it hard, especially at 1440p or 4K. You might want to start thinking about a CPU upgrade if you want to maximize performance.

Do you have any recommendations for a good upgrade?

Yeah, what CPUs are you considering for an upgrade?

First off, have you enabled XMP in your BIOS? It can help with memory performance. Also, consider using MSI Afterburner to monitor both CPU and GPU utilization during gameplay. If your GPU isn’t hitting around 95% usage, you might be CPU bottlenecked, especially with an i9-9900K. Just a heads up!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll check on XMP today.

I enabled XMP 1 on my setup and saw an improvement, worth a try!
