I'm getting a new 5090 graphics card this week, but I'm a bit worried about the power demands it might have. Right now, my whole setup including the PC and two monitors is running off an extension cord, and I'm concerned about whether that could be a fire hazard. The extension cord is rated for a maximum of 1875W and has a surge protection rating of 1080 joules. Will this cord be able to handle the power requirements of the 5090 safely? I definitely don't want to risk starting a fire or damaging my hardware!

It's smart to be cautious! First off, check the rating of your power supply. If it’s significantly lower than 1875W, your extension cord should be fine. The main risk with long cables is voltage drop, but with a 10ft cord, you probably don't have to worry about that. Your equipment should stay safe and not heat up if you're below the threshold. Just keep an eye on it initially to ensure it’s stable!

Thanks for the tip! My power supply is 1000W 80+ Gold, so I think I'm good on that front!
