Can I run a 5950X on my B450 motherboard with an RTX 5090?

I'm currently using an Asrock B450M Pro 4 with a Ryzen 2200G and a GTX 960. Since graduating, I'm looking to upgrade my setup for heavy VFX work in Blender, Unreal Engine, and After Effects. I want the best performance but I'm considering whether I should save money on the motherboard, RAM, and CPU if it's possible without limiting my upcoming RTX 5090. Will my B450M Pro 4 handle a 5950X effectively? How might the PCI Gen 3 impact the RTX 5090's performance? Also, would the 5950X bottleneck the RTX 5090? Finally, if I add another 32GB Corsair Vengeance RAM to make 64GB, is that a good idea, or should I opt for a 128GB kit?

What's the price difference between the 5950X and the 7800X3D for you? The 7800X3D is around £100 more, but remember that you'll also need to get a new motherboard and RAM if you choose that route. Just a thought!

Honestly, I wouldn’t go for that setup. You might be better off selling your old rig and starting fresh. It's a lot more hassle trying to make outdated tech work with cutting-edge components.

There's some good tests showing how the RTX 5090 performs on PCI Gen 3 compared to newer versions, and surprisingly, the differences aren't huge. But if you're spending on a 5090, you might as well consider an AM5 setup as it'll be way better for gaming and utilization with that GPU. An AMD 9800X3D or 9950X3D would be a much better match for the 5090 than the 5950X, to be honest.
