Intel vs. AMD for High-Resolution Gaming and Music Production: What’s the Best Choice?

Hey everyone! I'm thinking about upgrading to an Intel i9 14900K paired with an MSI Shadow RTX 5080. My main focus will be on gaming in high resolutions with demanding titles like Star Citizen and heavily modded Cities Skylines 2, as well as music and media production. I read that Intel had some significant stability issues in the past, but they're supposedly resolved now. I'm planning to couple it with an MSI PRO Z790 A-Max WiFi motherboard and using an ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 for cooling. Are there any concerns I should be aware of regarding bottlenecks, power consumption, temperatures, or any lingering issues with Intel's stability? Should I consider other alternatives? Just a heads up, I've never used AMD before, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Here's my take: With Intel's recent CPUs, you're investing in a platform that's kind of at the end of its road. AMD seems to have a better plan for future generations on the AM5 socket, and they use less power. If you're producing music or content, I definitely think AMD has the edge right now.

Honestly, I'd steer clear of the LGA 1700 platform and look more towards the LGA 1851 or AM5 platforms. They're more future-proof and offer better performance overall for gaming and content creation.

So would you recommend the Ultra 9 285K instead?

I get it, but Intel has had several hiccups lately. They've repeatedly announced fixes for the stability issues, but can you trust that it’s actually sorted out this time? For your demanding games, CPUs like the 9800X3D or the 9950X3D are hard to beat, especially when using mods—that's where you might face CPU bottlenecks.

Check out those benchmarks from Puget Systems on content creation—the results can vary based on speed and type of RAM, which is pretty crucial. AMD does need faster RAM for optimal performance, so keep that in mind!
