My six-year-old RTX 3080 started producing visual artifacts and finally stopped working after several days of troubleshooting. I was considering rebuilding the whole system, but component prices have pushed me toward replacing only the graphics card. I'd like to maintain or improve my current gaming performance and have a budget of roughly $600–$1,000. What GPUs would you recommend, and are there any important factors such as resolution, ray tracing, CUDA requirements, or the rest of my system that I should consider?

Used cards can give you more performance for the money. A used RTX 4080 or RTX 4070 Ti Super would be worth checking if you can find one from a reliable seller with a reasonable return window. The RTX 4070 Super is also a practical option if you play at 1440p and do not need a huge jump over the 3080.
If you want to stay with Nvidia, look at the RTX 5070 or 5070 Ti. The 5070 should cover a lot of 1440p gaming, while the 5070 Ti makes more sense if you want stronger ray tracing, DLSS features, or Nvidia-specific software. Just compare prices carefully—the 5070 Ti is only attractive when it is reasonably close in price to the 9070 XT.
The right choice depends heavily on your monitor and the rest of the PC. For 1440p, an RTX 5070, RX 9070, or RX 9070 XT should be plenty. For 4K, I’d lean toward the 9070 XT, 5070 Ti, or a well-priced used 4080. Before buying, check your power supply, case clearance, CPU balance, and whether you actually need CUDA or Nvidia-only features. Also, even if the old 3080 is dead, it may still be worth selling for parts.
The Radeon RX 9070 XT is probably the strongest value choice if you mainly care about gaming performance per dollar. It generally offers a substantial upgrade over the RTX 3080 without the premium attached to some Nvidia models. The regular RX 9070 is also worth considering if it is noticeably cheaper.
At current prices, the 9070 XT is usually the better value unless you specifically need Nvidia features or do work that depends on CUDA.
