Hey everyone! I'm building a new PC and I plan to use my three-year-old Seasonic FOCUS 750W 80+ Gold PSU from my old setup. I'll be using a 9800X3D along with an RX 9070XT. I have a few questions about whether this power supply will be suitable:
1. Will power spikes be an issue with this setup?
2. Can I try running the 750W PSU first, and if I run into problems, upgrade later?
3. If the 750W isn't enough, could it cause any unnoticed issues that might affect performance or damage my PSU over time, aside from just shutting down?
4. If a 750W PSU won't cut it, would it be better to spend an extra $100-$150 on an RTX 5070 TI, which I believe would work with the 750W, or should I invest in a better PSU and stick with the AMD card? Thanks for any advice!

For most setups, including mid-range CPUs, a 750W will definitely handle it, even if the GPU pulls a bit more. Desktop CPUs generally don’t spike much past 200W without going to the high-end models. Just keep an eye on the actual use; sometimes, you might hit some unexpected peaks, but with the RX 9070XT, you should be fine!
You didn’t specify the GPU model before, but if you’re really going for that RX 9070XT, 750W is cutting it close. Technically, it should be enough for most builds, especially if you're not maxing out on the CPU too much. The Seasonic FOCUS series is solid, so you should be fine as long as you don’t overclock.
What you really want to check is your total power draw under load. If you're under 600W during gaming or heavy tasks, you should be alright!
Yeah, I was thinking about the RX 9070XT too. It's nice to have that headroom, just in case!
