I recently did a complete fresh install of my operating system, wiping everything clean. However, after the reset, I noticed a media device related to Linux still showing up in my storage. I had previously encountered malware that I believed to be linked to this Linux device, so I'm worried. How can a media device still appear after wiping my computer? Is this something I should be concerned about, or could it just be a remnant that a former hacker no longer controls?

It sounds like what you're seeing is likely a partition from your hard drive instead of an actual hacker-controlled device. When you reset your PC, if it was dual-booted with Linux, some parts might still be there. You can check this in disk management to see if it's an old partition that just needs to be formatted or resized. It's more common than you think!
I wouldn't worry too much! Windows tends to recognize and display any media devices or partitions on your system, including ones linked to older OS installations like Linux. If you saw that Linux logo before, it probably means there was once a dual boot. Unless you're interacting with it directly or having issues, it's most likely just a leftover partition.
That makes sense! I was worried it was something more malicious.
If it's a media device appearing in your device manager, it could simply be a normal detection by Windows. Just because it had a Linux logo doesn't mean it’s still there for malicious reasons. As long as you're not experiencing any odd behavior, you might be in the clear!
I appreciate it! I’ll keep an eye on things. Just wanted to make sure my system is safe.

Thanks for the insight! I'll check the disk management to see if that's the case.
