Why is my new Ryzen 8700G underperforming with a high tab load compared to my old i5-4430?

I recently upgraded my PC from an i5-4430 with integrated HD4600 to a Ryzen 8700G, switching from Windows 10 to Windows 11, and I'm noticing some really concerning performance issues. I used to run over 16,000 tabs across Chrome and Brave without major issues, but now I'm getting significant lock-ups with only 800 tabs open in Chrome. My setup includes a 1 TB SATA SSD to a 1 TB M2 SSD, and I'm seeing high CPU usage between 10-75%, which is surprising given that my new CPU should be much faster.

Interestingly, my SSD often hits 100% saturation, and my virtual memory is at 56 GB even with the reduced tab load. With the old setup, 16,000 tabs only used about 43 GB of pagefile. Is Windows 11 a major resource hog? Are there issues with Chrome on this system? I also changed to HDMI from VGA on a new monitor, but it's the same resolution. Any insights or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Lol, it's funny because it sounds like Windows 11 is more of a "piggy" than your setup! It's probably trying to run all these background processes while you're gaming or browsing. But seriously, have you thought about reseating your RAM? Sometimes, just making sure everything is connected properly can make a huge difference. And as for switching to a MacBook...eh, that wouldn't hold up against your 16,000 tabs! You're right about that.

Exactly! A MacBook would struggle with that many tabs. Stick with what you have and maybe look at some optimizations for Windows or checking Chrome's settings.

Right? You made a great upgrade, just need some adjustments to make it work for you better.

Yeah, Windows 11 has been pretty notorious for being a resource hog! It seems to use more RAM and CPU resources compared to Windows 10, which might be affecting your performance, especially with so many tabs open. Have you tried looking into your RAM usage? It's possible your system is running low on memory, especially with browser tabs like that. Also, consider tweaking your system settings—sometimes adjusting BIOS settings can help streamline performance. Just make sure you backup your data before making any major changes!
