What Upgrades Should I Get for My PC to Keep Up with a GeForce RTX 4090?

Hey everyone! I've been seeing some framerate drops on my current setup, and I'm looking to upgrade a few components to better match my new GeForce RTX 4090. I upgraded my GPU a couple of years ago, but the rest of my system is still pretty much the same. Can anyone recommend a good CPU, motherboard, and RAM combo for my build? I previously went all out with top-tier components, but I'm wondering if it's worth it to do that again, or if there are more budget-friendly options that would work just as well. Thanks a ton for your insights!

Just a reminder that technology ages fast, no matter how much you spend. The expensive parts won’t guarantee future-proofing, especially if you don’t use all their features. Sometimes cheaper alternatives can perform just as well if you pick the right ones!

If you want something more budget-friendly, you could grab an Intel Core i5-14600K with a Gigabyte B760M motherboard. That combo comes in at under $310! For a bit more power, consider going for the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D with a B850 motherboard and some 48GB DDR5 RAM. It won't break the bank and will still give you solid performance!

You're recommending Raptor Lake to someone on AM4? Dude, that's disgusting.

Honestly, the combo of a 4090 with a 3900X is solid, but you definitely should upgrade your CPU, motherboard, and RAM. Look for a 9800X3D or similar with a B850 motherboard and 32GB of 6000MT RAM to keep everything balanced.

I’d say look into getting the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D or the 9800X3D paired with a B650 or B850 motherboard, plus 32GB of 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM. That should keep your PC running smoothly for a long time!

This upgrade would be literally all you need for many years to come.
