How Can I Switch from Chrome OS Flex to Linux on My Dell Laptop?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some guidance after switching my old Dell Inspiron 2-in-1 laptop from Windows 10 to Chrome OS Flex. The conversion was super easy, but now I've realized I want to try Linux instead. Given that I'm a total newbie with Linux, I'd love to hear the best way to make that transition. My laptop specs are pretty decent: it has 16GB of RAM, an Intel Core i7 processor, and a 200GB SSD, so it should run Linux just fine. I'm unclear about how to create the bootable installation media since most of the guides I found are for actual Chromebooks, not a Windows-designed device. Can I use the guides for Linux Mint as if I were still in Windows? I'd be making the installer media using my newer Windows PC, but I want to ensure I'm following the right steps. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Jan A, a retired CPA from Seattle.

You’re on the right track! You can definitely just boot up a Linux installer USB and erase your current setup during the installation. Just remember, your device is not technically a Chromebook, so you're good to go. When creating the USB media, you might want to check out tools like Ventoy or Fedora Media Writer since some users have had issues with Etcher lately. Good luck!
