I'm trying to upgrade from my old SSD to a new WD BLACK SN71002 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD. I've been using a WD SN530 256GB M.2 NVMe SSD alongside a 1TB HDD. I cloned all my data from the old SSD to the new one, powered off my PC, and swapped the drives. However, when I check the BIOS, my new SSD doesn't show up at all. The only options I see are 'Windows Boot Manager', 'CD/DVD', 'Removable Device', and 'LAN'. To make things worse, when I plugged my old SSD back in, it also doesn't show up in the BIOS anymore. Is there a way to resolve this?

It sounds like the 'Windows Boot Manager' you see might actually be referencing your SSD, especially if it has Windows installed on it. Often, the actual SSD may not show separately in the BIOS. You might need to check your SATA configuration or ensure that the new SSD is correctly seated in the M.2 slot. Also, resetting the BIOS to default settings could help it recognize the new drive more effectively.
If your old SSD isn’t showing up either, it could be a problem with the M.2 slot or a power issue. Double-check that the SSDs are properly installed and consider looking for any firmware updates for your motherboard that might help recognize newer SSDs. Sometimes a simple BIOS update can solve these issues!
Good call! I’ll check if there’s an update available. I just hope I haven’t damaged anything during the swap!
Thanks for the tip! I’ll try resetting the BIOS and checking the connections. Just to confirm, do I need to unplug the power before reseating the SSD?
