I've been facing this issue since I built my PC. My network connection sometimes shows that I'm using Ethernet even though I'm not connected to an Ethernet cable—I'm actually using a Wi-Fi antenna on my motherboard. This is frustrating as I also experience ping spikes that jump from stable to 100+ ms, though it doesn't happen all the time. Could this Ethernet indication be related to my ping issues? Is it harmful to my system?

Are you using a VPN? Sometimes VPNs can cause such discrepancies in network indicators. But if you're not using one, then it could just be a software glitch.
It might be worth checking if you have any virtual adapters running, like Hyper-V or VirtualBox. Sometimes disabling those can help clear things up. If you’re not familiar with disabling network cards, that might be a step to consider.
Have you considered disabling the Ethernet functionality in your BIOS? That could stop the confusion and ensure your system only connects via Wi-Fi.
