I'm in the process of picking between two hard drives: a 4TB SMR HDD with a 256MB cache and a CMR HDD with a 64MB cache. My main work involves office tasks, coding, and data science, and I regularly handle large datasets around 300-400GB. For this type of workload, which one would be the better option?

For the amount of storage you're dealing with, I’d strongly suggest considering SSDs instead of HDDs. They’re way faster, last longer, and consume less power and heat. Yes, they might cost a bit more upfront, but you'll appreciate the performance boost and reliability in the long run for office work and data science.

Totally get it. It's a tough call, but with SSD prices dropping, it could be worth it if you need that speed.

I see your point, but OP asked specifically about HDDs. Let's stick to that discussion!
