Why Does My PC Keep Crashing While Gaming?

I've been having an issue with my PC crashing unexpectedly while playing various games, and I'm hoping to find some help. My setup includes an AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT graphics card, an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor, a Corsair RM850x PSU, a TUFGaming B650-PLUS WIFI motherboard, and 32GB of Fury DDR5 RAM. It's frustrating because all of this hardware shouldn't have issues running games.

The crashes happen without any warning and there's no blue screen; I have to manually restart my PC. Notably, it doesn't happen during stress tests, which makes it even more confusing. I've noticed some patterns with specific games like Cyberpunk 2077, Overwatch 2, and World of Warcraft Retail, where crashes seem to occur at certain points or actions, but other games, like Vermintide II, initially ran for hundreds of hours without a hitch.

I've tried a lot of fixes on my own, including reinstalling Windows and updating BIOS, but the crashes persist. I even took it to a couple of repair technicians, but those visits didn't solve the problem and involved some basic tests I could have done myself. I recently swapped my graphics card with an older one, but the crashes continued nonetheless.

Additionally, I've noticed electric arcing noises when I plug in the PSU, which seems concerning. If anyone has ideas on what might be causing these issues, I would really appreciate it! Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Given that your system runs fine on stress tests but crashes during gaming, it might be specific game settings or even something funky with driver compatibility. You mentioned you tried lowering settings, but did you also update your graphics drivers? Sometimes a fresh install can help clear things up. Just a thought!

Have you checked for dump files after the crashes? They can give you insights into what caused the shutdown. If you haven’t done it yet, boot into Safe Mode and look in C:WindowsMinidump for any files. If they’re there, zip them up and upload to a file-sharing site to get help analyzing them. More dump files lead to better troubleshooting.

First off, definitely look into those arcing sounds from your PSU. It's not normal and could suggest a serious issue that might be causing those crashes. Make sure to always switch it off at the mains before plugging in or unplugging stuff—that could prevent further damage. If the problem continues, consider getting a new PSU; ensuring it's well-rated could save you a lot of headaches down the line.

Thanks for the heads-up! I've started switching it off at the mains before unplugging anything. Do you think that the PSU arcing could also be the reason for my crashes?
