I've recently stepped into a help desk tech role, and now I've learned that I'll be responsible for setting up and managing a Linux server for a new vendor software. Despite using Ubuntu at home, my knowledge is pretty basic—mostly just navigating files with commands like 'cd', 'ls', and 'mv'. I expressed my concerns about my lack of experience, but my coworkers seem to think I know more than I do. I'm eager to take on this opportunity and gain experience, but I'm feeling overwhelmed. What steps can I take to learn and prepare for this task? Any specific resources or skills I should focus on would be greatly appreciated!

It's not as daunting as it sounds! Just dive in and tackle issues as they come up. Taking on more responsibility is a great way to grow your skills. Plus, there are tons of helpful resources out there.
Check out Digital Ocean—they have fantastic tutorials that cover the basics of setting up an Ubuntu server. You’ll want to get familiar with how the vendor's software needs to interact with the server, especially regarding permissions and account setups.
Yeah, Linode has great resources too. Both platforms make things pretty straightforward!
