Is it worth upgrading from AM4 to AM5 for a tighter budget?

I'm considering upgrading my PC and am on a bit of a budget. I want to invest in both a GPU and CPU, but I'm worried my AM4 motherboard might hold back a new RTX 50 series graphics card. Should I upgrade to AM5 for better performance and future-proofing, or is it better to stick with my AM4 setup and optimize it? What do you all think?

I think looking for discounts on AM5 is getting more reasonable right now. If you can find a 5900XT on sale, that could be a solid stopgap until the next generation. I saw one drop to around $210, which seems like a good deal.

It really depends on your usage. Many games work well with a 5600 or 5700. However, newer titles are becoming more CPU-intensive. Going to AM5 means you'll need a new motherboard and RAM, which could set you back about $500. If you can wait for sales, like Black Friday, it might be worth it.

Without knowing your other components, I'd say stick with an upgrade to a 5700X3D or 5800X3D and put the rest towards your GPU. That might give you the best performance for your budget right now.

Honestly, yes, you should consider AM5. But I’d recommend waiting since people are saying AM6 is coming up soon, maybe around 2027. That said, you might still get good use out of AM5 for a while.

Absolutely go for it! I'm currently making the jump from AM4 to AM5 myself. Just picked up a Ryzen 9 9900X and a B850 board. I can't wait to build my new all-white system!

If you’re not using an x3D CPU, I'd suggest switching to AM5—just keep an eye on your budget. A 5600 or 5800XT might work fine for now, though.

I'm using a 5700X3D with my 5070 Ti, and honestly, it's performing pretty solidly. If you're not running top-tier games that push CPU performance, your current setup may still hold its own for now.
