Should I Upgrade My PC or Go for a Complete Rebuild?

Hey everyone! I recently got back into gaming, but I've noticed that my PC isn't cutting it for newer titles, especially when it comes to high/ultra graphics settings and maintaining decent framerates. I'm not the most tech-savvy person, so I could really use some guidance. I bought my PC in 2020, and here are the specs:

- **CPU:** Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10400F @ 2.90GHz
- **GPU:** NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER
- **RAM:** 16 GB (2x8 GB)
- **Storage:** ADATA SU630 SSD
- **Motherboard:** ASUS PRIME H410M-K

I think my PSU is around 500W. I've been leaning towards a rebuild, but I'm a bit hesitant about taking everything apart and putting it back together. I'd like to know the best path forward—whether to upgrade or completely rebuild. I want to play AAA titles at higher graphics settings and framerates, and I'm also considering VR, so any recommendations for that would be great, too. I don't have a strict budget, but I'd prefer to keep it under $3,000 and I'm located in Australia. I bought the PC from alliedgamingpc, and might go through them again if they have good options. Thanks in advance for any help!

Totally agree, a rebuild makes sense here. Upgrading wouldn’t be worth it considering the limitations of your current parts. The AMD AM5 platforms are excellent right now for what you want to do.

You could definitely see significant improvements with an upgrade, but honestly, you'd get much better results with an AM5 mid-range build. Can you share what resolution you're aiming for and what games you're interested in?

I'm good with 1440p; I'm not set on 4K, but I'd be open to it if it's feasible. I aim to play Jurassic World Evolution 3 and some simulators like Planet Zoo, which my current setup struggles with. I'd also try out Battlefield 6 and GTA VI when they drop. Basically, I want to handle AAA games smoothly at peak graphics!

That sounds great! A solid rebuild will definitely help you hit those targets without a hitch.

While you could slightly upgrade the CPU and GPU, I'd suggest selling your current system and building something new. With your budget, you can put together an excellent AM5 build that can easily handle 1440p gaming with high framerates. Check out this example build: [link to part list].

Thanks for the example! I think it’s time to part ways with my old rig. Any idea how much I could get for it?

Hard to say, but with those specs, you should be able to get a decent amount back! Just check local listings for a similar setup.
