Looking for Safe Virus Samples to Test My Anti-Virus

I'm working on a project to create my own anti-virus software and I'm looking for safe, non-harmful viruses to use for testing purposes. I've already tested with EICAR, which is a standard test file, but I'd like to know if there are any other options out there.

EICAR is great, but you can also create your own harmless test strings that your anti-virus can recognize. This could give you more control over what you want to test for.

The best approach might be to set up a dedicated testing machine where you can safely test against real viruses. Just make sure you're using a virtual machine to keep everything secure!

If you know what you're trying to catch, you could just write a simple script that falsely triggers your anti-virus. This way, you can control the test without needing any actual virus samples.
