Hey everyone! I'm a long-time Windows user (since version 3.1) and I'm finally fed up with the constant problems and upgrades. I came across a Linux distro called Bazzite that looks a lot like Windows, which got me interested in switching. However, due to issues with dual-booting, I tried setting up a virtual machine on my Unraid system with Bazzite 42 installed.
I've logged into Steam and downloaded my favorite game, Euro Truck Simulator 2, but when I hit play, nothing happens. I'm not sure if it's because it's running in a VM or if the game isn't compatible with Linux. I really want to know if Euro Truck Simulator 2 will work on Steam with Linux. Can anyone confirm if it's possible? I'd like to have a definite answer before I completely ditch Windows. Thanks a lot!

If you haven’t already, consider getting a cheap SSD and installing Linux on that directly. It would let you test your games on the actual hardware instead of dealing with virtualization hassles.
I've been playing ETS2 on Linux for a while, and it runs perfectly, including all DLCs and mods! The only thing I’ve seen issues with is eye tracking, but I don’t personally use that feature, so I can't speak to it.
You can check out ProtonDB for game compatibility, but Euro Truck Simulator 2 runs natively on Linux, so it shouldn't need any workarounds. The issue you experienced is likely due to running the game in a virtual machine that can't access your GPU. If you install Linux directly on your hardware, it should work great!
You might need to set up your virtual machine to allow GPU passthrough for gaming, but in general, ETS2 on Linux works smoothly according to ProtonDB!
I haven't tried ETS2, but my experience is that most single-player games work fine on Linux. Just avoid those that have strict anti-cheat systems if you want to play online. Hope that helps!
Definitely check ProtonDB; it should work! Make sure your Steam settings have compatibility enabled under the game settings. That could help get it running smoothly.
I believe the game is rated platinum on ProtonDB, which means it should run really well on Linux. Just make sure to check your compatibility settings in Steam.
Also, you might want to use the Windows version via Proton if the native one gives you too much trouble—it’s usually straightforward!

Yep, I can confirm the Linux version runs flawlessly. Just a heads up: if you’re thinking about other games, make sure the ones you try don’t have kernel-level anti-cheats since those usually don’t work on Linux.
