How can I set up Ethernet for multiple PCs in my house?

I have a house with a router/modem in my room that I connect to via Ethernet for fast internet speeds. My two friends, who also have gaming PCs, are currently on wireless but want to switch to Ethernet for better performance. I want to know the best way to connect Ethernet to their rooms without having to run long cables all over the house or going through the walls. Is there a method to use coax cables to extend their connections?

One option you can consider is running an Ethernet cable to one of your friends' rooms and connecting it to a switch. From that switch, you can connect separate lines to each friend's PC. This setup is similar to running multiple lines from the router but can be more cost-effective. Just keep in mind that all the PCs connected to the switch will share the bandwidth of a single Gigabit connection back to the router, which can impact performance during heavy usage like game downloads.

That's a good point! Just remember that if all the PCs are using a lot of bandwidth at the same time, it might slow things down a bit.

Yeah, and if you’re worried about running cables along the baseboards, there are cable covers you can buy that make it look nicer!

If there's a coax outlet in each room, you might want to look into using MoCA adapters. You'd need one for the router area and another for each friend's room. Plus, a coax splitter if you're using cable internet. Just don't forget the MoCA PoE filter to keep your MoCA signal from going the wrong way on the coax line!

Have you considered using powerline adapters? They use your home's electrical wiring to transmit the internet. Just plug one near your router and the other in your friends' rooms. They can be hit or miss, but worth a shot!

I actually tried two different powerline adapters, but they only gave me around 60mbps, plus I got lag spikes while gaming. So, I’m not sure it’s a great option.
