I recently set up a new cooler and power supply unit (PSU) in my PC, and I noticed a loose cable that doesn't seem to have a purpose. This cable appears to be connected to the part of the case where the power button and fans are located, but the end isn't connected to anything. I can't recall if it was hooked up to something before, but my PC seems to boot and function correctly. I'm concerned—could this loose cable lead to problems like a short circuit or even a fire hazard?

As long as that cable isn't flopping around where it could get caught in a fan, you should be fine. If it’s just hanging out, you might want to zip tie it securely to keep it away from any moving parts. Most likely, it's a leftover fan cable or something from the front panel that you don’t need anymore. Just watch out if the end of the cable has any exposed pins or wires that might touch metal—then you’d want to be cautious!

I wanted to share a quick photo, but it’s all bundled nicely with my other cables at the back of the case, so no worries about it getting near the fans!
