I created an iCloud account using my work email to manage a development subscription and linked it to a Google Voice number since I don't have a work phone. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't let you use the same phone number for multiple accounts. I only used that Google Voice number for this account.
Now, when trying to log into my work iCloud account, it asks for confirmation of that phone number. I checked Google Voice but the number is gone, and it's missing from my personal account too. I searched through my emails and Google account info but found nothing.
I contacted iCloud Support, and they said I need that number to recover my account. I can verify my work email and identity, and I'm open to providing other forms of identification, but Apple doesn't seem to have a process for that. My account seems permanently locked, and I can't associate my work email with another iCloud account. Does anyone have suggestions for what I can do with Apple? Did I just get an unhelpful support rep?

For years, Apple users have generally managed their Apple ID themselves. Support can guide you through some steps, but if you’re looking to reclaim your account, you’d typically need the original phone number. For activation locked devices, you can provide proof of ownership, but I don't think there's a recovery option in your case without that number.
Right? It's pretty tough if someone leaves and you want to reuse their email for a new hire. Big corporations really might have no way to reclaim that iCloud account.
Honestly, if you can’t access that phone number, it seems like you're stuck. You should have set up additional recovery options, especially since that number was solely for this account. Sorry to say, but it really feels like you're out of options here.

I get the frustration. But, if you didn't link your Apple ID to a device with that email, it might complicate things further.
