I'm noticing that my Task Manager shows my RAM usage at 48%, even though I only have Opera open, which is using about 2 GB. I'm curious about what could be taking up all that memory.

You might want to try clicking on the header in the memory column in Task Manager to sort your tasks by memory usage. This should give you a clearer picture of what's consuming your RAM.
This is actually a common question. Windows tends to keep memory usage around 50% to cache files for faster access, and this won't show up in Task Manager. Don't worry too much; Windows will free up RAM if another application needs it!
That's a bit puzzling because it makes my Minecraft laggy, especially when it uses up to 10 GB of my 16 GB RAM. When that happens, it shows nearly 98% of my RAM is used, causing both Minecraft and Opera to lag.
