I've been curious about switching to Linux because it seems interesting, but I mostly play games. I've heard that many games with anti-cheat systems don't work on Linux—can anyone confirm this? Also, what are the pros and cons of making the switch? For context, I currently have a 7600x processor, a 2070 Super graphics card, and I'm using Windows 11 with 32GB of RAM.

In my experience, gaming on Linux has gotten a lot better, but it’s still not quite as good as Windows. Make sure to evaluate the games you want against compatibility lists like ProtonDB. Also, remember that kernel-level anti-cheat isn’t supported on Linux, which may limit your gaming options.

Honestly, unless you have a specific reason to switch, Windows is perfectly fine for gaming. You can also consider dual booting Linux alongside Windows. This way, if a game doesn’t run on Linux, you can just boot into Windows and play it there without committing fully to the switch.

Linux has become more friendly for gaming, especially with tools like Lutris and Steam. I use Lutris for World of Warcraft, and it works for plenty of other games too. One of the benefits of Linux is that it has less bloat and spyware, which makes it more secure and lightweight. You can also use repositories to safely install software instead of hunting down downloads from sketchy sites.

If your main games include ones like Fortnite, Apex Legends, or any with strict anti-cheat systems, I’d recommend sticking with Windows. But if those aren't your favorites, give Linux a shot. Another option is to buy a second drive and set up a dual boot with Linux—you just need to be careful during installation.

Before switching, check if your favorite games run on ProtonDB. It's a good resource for Linux gaming compatibility.
