Why Does My PC Crash Only in Some Games?

I've been facing a frustrating issue with my PC where it crashes silently while playing most games, but oddly enough, games like Fortnite and The Finals run perfectly fine. This started a few months ago without any obvious reason. My PC has been running smoothly for a long time, and now I can't pinpoint the cause of the crashes. I've checked the event viewer and there's nothing indicating a crash, plus all my drivers are up to date; I even did a clean installation of them.

My PC functions great with other tasks like streaming videos or using Discord, but when it comes to gaming, it crashes around 20-30 minutes in on titles such as Battlefield 6 and Baldur's Gate 3. I initially thought it might be a power supply issue and upgraded from a 450W to a 700W supply, but the crashes persist. I've thoroughly checked my hardware and everything seems in order. Does anyone have ideas or fixes that might help? Would a factory reset make a difference given that most of my game files are on Steam Cloud?

Your CPU and GPU temps at 70-80°C seem a bit high, but it's common under load. If you're only experiencing crashes in specific games, it might also be related to those games pushing your hardware differently. Have you tried lowering settings even more or seeing if there's an update for those games that might address performance?

It sounds like your crashes might be heat-related, especially if they happen around the same time in each game. Try opening your case and using a fan to help cool things down while testing it again. High loads can sometimes push temperatures higher than you might expect and cause crashes, even if they don't seem hot initially.
