I'm trying to understand the differences between DDR5 6000 CL30 and DDR5 6400 CL36 RAM modules. Which one should I choose for gaming performance? How does the latency and clock speed impact actual gaming experiences?

I think the 6000 CL30 is just going to be faster overall, especially if you're focusing on gaming. I've seen people say 6800 MT/s can help bring latency back down, but really, 6000 MT/s is often considered the sweet spot.

That's great to hear! But if I decide to upgrade to higher MHz, will it noticeably impact gameplay?

The 6000 MT/s with CL30 is generally considered to provide better performance. Even though the 6400 MT/s with CL36 has a higher clock speed, when you calculate the actual latency, 6000/30 ends up being faster. For instance, the latency for 6000 CL30 is about 10 nanoseconds, while 6400 CL36 is around 11.25 ns. If you're gaming, you'll want to go with the 6000 CL30. Plus, if you're on an AMD platform, sticking to 6000 MT/s helps you maintain a good memory controller ratio, keeping performance optimal.

EDIT: If you're considering memory for an AMD setup, I'd recommend not going over 6000 MT/s to avoid increasing memory latency due to the memory controller running out of sync.

I want to highlight that the 6400 CL36 can work well with certain Intel setups, like LGA1700. So it's not universally incompatible, primarily if you're using 7000 series CPUs on AM5.

This formula is super useful! I just calculated mine as 9.03 ns, thanks!
