Why Does My Laptop Keep Turning Off Randomly?

My laptop has been experiencing a frustrating issue where it turns off and on repeatedly while I'm using it. Sometimes it will take ages before it shuts down, and other times it will crash multiple times before I can even get to the lock screen. It keeps triggering the auto-repair feature, which doesn't help at all and just prompts me to restart. I've already reset the laptop once, but it didn't fix the problem.

I'm uncertain whether it's a battery issue because the charge doesn't seem to deplete; it just suddenly shuts off. There's no visible internal damage since I've never dropped or hit it. The temperature can get quite high—sometimes reaching 165°F—but even when gaming, it feels hotter, and it doesn't shut down.

I'm wondering if I need to take it to a repair shop since I don't have the proper screwdriver to open it up myself. My laptop is an NVIDIA Acer Nitro 5, and I'll provide more details once I can get it to stay on long enough.

It sounds like it could be overheating, especially at that temperature. When your laptop is running, try checking if air is flowing through the vents. If you notice dust or other blockages when you shine a light in there, that could definitely be causing the issues. I suggest taking it to a repair shop to have the CPU and GPU repasted with thermal paste and get a good cleaning. Dust buildup can really mess with a laptop's performance, particularly if you have pets around. If that doesn’t solve it, you might be dealing with a hardware issue.

Is your laptop hitting 165°F while idling or just when gaming? If it’s idling at that temperature, that’s definitely a concern! You might want to clean out the vents yourself if you're comfortable. You can usually get a can of compressed air for that. But if it’s overheating and shutting off, taking it to a pro could be the best call.
