I closed my laptop after lunch, and when I came back, the power icon and the power button both indicated that the laptop is on (the icon was blue). However, the screen is still black, and switching it on and off hasn't helped. Does anyone have any tips for resolving this issue?

If it happens again, you can try pressing CTRL + Win + Shift + B. This keyboard shortcut resets the GPU, which can help if the laptop goes to sleep and won't wake up. I've noticed HP laptops tend to have this issue a lot.
You might want to try holding down the power button for about 5 seconds to force a shutdown. After that, unplug the AC adapter and hold the power button for around 30 seconds. This can often reset the power chip, which fixes a lot of the power issues we used to see with laptops. Give that a shot!
Just to clarify, is the power indicator the same as the power button? It sounds like they might be different on your laptop. The power icon usually shows the status, while the button is used to turn it on or off.
