Best Uses and OS Options for a Dell OptiPlex 3010 SFF?

I have a Dell OptiPlex 3010 SFF model sitting around, and I'm unsure about what Linux OS to install on it or what cool uses I could find for it. I already have a more powerful PC, so I'm considering using this OptiPlex as an emulation station, a NAS, or possibly just giving it to a family member. What do you think are some good options and use cases for this machine?

If you don’t really have a need for it, consider giving it away. The small form factor probably isn't ideal for a NAS setup unless you're planning to use SSDs and add some extra cooling. It’s not the best setup for that purpose.

I’d disagree! I’ve used a Dell 7040 SFF as a NAS with a 7200 HDD and an SSD, and it works great. Just treat it as a network drive that’s only active when needed, and you won’t run into issues. Plus, my 20-year-old HP tower runs fine 24/7 without breaking the bank on power!

Could you share some specs? That would help in giving better advice!

Sorry! I forgot to mention. It has an i5 CPU (probably around 10 years old), 16GB of low-voltage DDR3 RAM, and an Nvidia GT 1030 with 2GB of VRAM. Plus, I upgraded it with a 500GB SSD.
