Can I Swap Motherboards Between Laptops and Keep All My Data?

Hey everyone! This is my first time here, so I hope I'm following the rules. I need some advice for my sister-in-law. She has a laptop filled with precious memories of her dad, who sadly passed away. The problem is, she's forgotten the password and can't access it. She's taken it to several tech repair shops, but none have been able to help her retrieve the data. I was wondering, if someone were to transfer the motherboard from her laptop to a different one, would the memories still remain intact? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, moving the motherboard won’t resolve the password issue. The data you’re referring to is stored on the hard drive, not the motherboard itself. If the drive is encrypted, recovering data without the password could be impossible. Have you tried connecting the hard drive to another computer as an external drive? It might give you access, depending on the setup.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely look into that.
