Issues with iOS 26 and MDM Backup Restores

I've been experiencing some trouble with iOS 26 when using MDM, specifically Meraki. After restoring backups from iCloud, it seems to break the MDM enrollment process. Is anyone else facing similar issues with this setup?

Restoring from iCloud can indeed disrupt the MDM enrollment with iOS 26. The backup might overwrite the MDM profile, which necessitates re-enrollment. Tools like ScalefusionMDM can help out by allowing administrators to remotely push profiles and check device status, which saves a lot of manual work. While it may not completely resolve backup conflicts, it certainly makes the recovery process smoother.

Yes, I've run into this issue too. A few managed iPhones needed to be restarted and re-enrolled after users upgraded to iOS 26. I don't have all the details since I'm not directly involved, but it appears to be a common problem. Interestingly, it doesn't seem to affect every device that upgraded to iOS 26.

Is your device supervised? If it's not, then running into these issues with MDM enrollment is pretty typical after an upgrade.

Yeah, it's supposed to be supervised.

Meraki support mentioned that Automated Device Enrollment (ADE) isn't fully functional with iOS 26 as of early October. They provided a workaround that involved a fresh factory reset, removing settings applied through ADE, and then going through the setup process to manually enroll in MDM. I might not have remembered all the steps perfectly, but backup restoration does complicate things.
