I’m Really Worried About My Job After an Accidental Porn Search

I really messed up and I'm freaking out. I was looking at adult content late at night, and didn't realize that my WiFi would turn back on automatically at 5 a.m. I didn't mean for this to happen, and I've been feeling stressed and depressed, which has led me to consume more adult content than I should. My main concern is whether my employer can see exactly what I was searching for on my personal device while connected to work WiFi. I understand that using private browsing doesn't really hide my activity from them, but I'm hoping there's something I can do now to cover my tracks. Also, could they assume that it was me since I was connected to their WiFi? I'm really scared since this job is my dream, and I can't afford to lose it.

You're definitely not the only one to worry about this! If it helps, just focus on taking deep breaths. This wasn’t an intentional act to harm the company, so hopefully it won’t be viewed too seriously. Use this moment to think about managing your stress better; maybe look into healthier outlets or even counseling for help with your addiction. You've got this!

Thanks! I really appreciate the encouragement. It feels better to talk about it.

Just remember that private browsing modes don’t protect your traffic from being visible to your WiFi. If your company checks their logs, they could see that someone accessed adult sites, but it’s unlikely they’ll know it was you unless they have extensive monitoring in place. If you think your information is linked to your company, you might want to switch your SIM card or phone as a precaution. Most likely, this incident won’t have any major consequences if it was a one-time thing.

Okay, that makes sense! I just hope they don't make a big deal out of this.

For sure! Make a note to keep your personal and work devices separate in the future.

First of all, don't panic too much! It sounds like you were using a personal device on work WiFi, which is a common mistake. If your job doesn’t have your specific device information, they might not even be able to trace it back to you. It's important to remember that casual browsing is usually not monitored closely unless there's a specific reason for them to check. Focus on addressing your concerns with porn addiction; maybe consider reaching out to a therapist? You might find the support helpful.

Thanks for this! It's definitely comforting to know that it might not be as serious as I thought.

Absolutely, support is key! You’re taking a good step by thinking about therapy.
