I'm looking to build a high-end PC that lasts for 4-5 years and I'm debating between the 5080 and the 4090. The prices here are $1,460 for the 5080 and $2,120 for the 4090. I plan to play various games in 4K and I'm unsure which GPU to go for. Do I really need the additional VRAM of the 4090 or the features of the 50 series? I've got a lot of questions and would love to hear your thoughts!

I'd say go for the 5080. It's newer and has decent features. The frame generation isn't as bad as some say, really. For 4K gaming, 16GB of VRAM should be enough for a while, unless you're doing heavy AI work or editing where 24GB comes in handy.
If budget isn't a concern, just go with the 4090. You're looking at about 20% more performance and 50% more VRAM, which is crucial if you're playing the latest titles in 4K. I find that the frame generation tech isn't really worth it for me, so I prefer to have that VRAM for demanding games.
The extra VRAM has been on my mind too, especially for future games.
The 5080 is definitely a better value for your money. With some overclocking, it can get pretty close to the performance of the 4090, and it has some new features that could come in handy. The 4090 is better for 4K gaming, but I don’t think it’s worth that extra $700 for the performance difference.
But isn't the extra VRAM important for gaming at 4K?
Consider the 4090 if you want better longevity. Some games max out the VRAM on the 5080 at 4K settings. Eventually, you'll run into limitations, especially with demanding titles coming out. It's more expensive, but it might be worth it for future-proofing your setup.
That's why I’m leaning towards the 4090 too, even if it doesn't seem like a great value.
I've been leaning towards the 4090 mainly for the VRAM issues at 4K.
