Will Upgrading to a 7800X3D Cause a Bottleneck with My 1660 Super?

I'm planning to upgrade my PC starting with the motherboard and CPU before I get a new GPU, which is a bit pricey right now (looking at a 9070 XT). I'm considering getting a B650 Tomahawk motherboard paired with a 7800X3D CPU. My question is whether the 7800X3D will significantly bottleneck when I use my old 1660 Super GPU while I save up for the new graphics card.

Yeah, the 1660 Super has probably been the limiting factor for your gaming performance this whole time. Once you do the upgrade, you'll definitely see improvements, but only once you switch to a stronger GPU.

You might not see much increase in gaming performance with the 7800X3D if you're still using the 1660 Super. That GPU's capabilities are really going to hold back the full potential of the new CPU, especially in CPU-heavy games at 1080p.

It's actually more accurate to say that the 1660 Super will be the bottleneck in this setup. The 7800X3D is a powerful CPU, but the 1660 Super is going to limit your overall gaming performance.

Your upgrade plan is totally sensible! It’s wise to invest in the CPU first because GPUs often lag behind in tech. So getting the CPU now and upgrading the GPU later should work out fine.
