Why Does My Motherboard Keep Failing Every Year?

I've been struggling with my motherboard dying every year around the same time for the last four years. The first two motherboards were under warranty, but when I had to buy my third one, it also failed after just a year! My current setup includes an MSI B450M PRO VDH MAX and an Asus Prime A520M-K, along with an AMD Ryzen 3 3200G processor, Adata XPG 3200Mhz RAM, a Cooler Master 550w power supply, and a WD Blue 256GB SSD. Everything is connected properly, and I made sure not to skimp on the power supply. One strange thing is that my PC cabinet has a bit of static electricity; I can feel it when I touch it, though it's not strong enough to shock me. Can anyone offer advice on why this might be happening and how I can prevent it?

Definitely get an electrical outlet tester to make sure everything is wired correctly. You need to check that the ground connection is good, as it plays a crucial role in preventing these motherboard failures.

I just realized the grounding in my place is totally absent. I didn’t think it was such a big deal before, but now I see it could be important!

It sounds like you might be dealing with a power supply issue. What exact model are you using? And are you plugging your PC into a surge protector?

I think it's this one: amzn.in/d/iUbYqtn. Unfortunately, it's directly plugged into the outlet without a surge protector.

That thing about feeling current when touching your cabinet is definitely not normal. I’ve never had a motherboard fail on me, so this seems really suspicious. If you’re using the same power supply, I would suspect it could be the culprit. If not, you might be getting dirty power from the outlet, which could be causing all these problems.

I can relate—my sine wave UPS kept failing as well. What about using a normal UPS until you can get a better one?

In India, sine wave UPS options are pricey. Even a regular UPS might not give you the same protection, but it’s better than nothing for now.

This sounds a lot like a grounding issue with your home wiring. If your PC isn't grounded properly, it could be causing all these electrical problems. Check your house's wiring; that might fix the issue.

I found out I don't have grounding either! What steps should I take next?
