I recently installed Xubuntu 24.04, but I'm stuck with a black screen on startup. After some digging, it seems my HD Radeon 5450 GPU might not be well-supported, which is likely causing this issue. I'm currently using the nomodeset option, but I'd love to fully utilize my GPU's capabilities and get the right resolution. Does anyone have suggestions on what I can do? Maybe a kernel change or terminal commands?

As far as I know, the Terascale 2 architecture still gets some support. You might want to check out some resources which discuss this. There's a thread that talks about Ubuntu 24.04 and legacy GPUs—you might find something helpful there!
You can try switching to TTY by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F3. This might help figure out if there's an issue with Xorg. You should also look for drivers for your GPU, like mesa or radeon drivers. If those don’t work, older Xubuntu versions from 16.04 to 20.04 might be better suited for your setup, especially if you include the third-party drivers during installation.
Quick question—does your CPU or motherboard have an integrated GPU? Sometimes that can affect how the system handles graphics drivers.
