How can I recover files from a corrupt flash drive?

I have a 1TB Mosdart flash drive that I use to store a mix of personal and professional files. After using it on my Dell work computer, the system crashed unexpectedly, showing an error message before shutting down. When I attempted to access the drive again, it appeared as 'Removable Disc (D:)' but was grayed out. The properties indicate that the device is working properly, but my IT guy was unable to retrieve anything after testing it on his computer. It occasionally shows up, but then disappears. Is there a way to recover my files from this drive?

First off, a crucial lesson: always have backups! Consider the 3-2-1 rule: keep three copies of your data, two on different devices, and one off-site. Since you've already got an issue, your IT guy could try cloning the drive with software like Clonezilla. If the drive isn't recognized in data recovery tools like PhotoRec, professional recovery services might be the next step, as they have specialized equipment to repair drives and retrieve data.

I experienced a similar issue with my flash drive. It turned out Windows had created a couple of small, hidden partitions that caused the data to be inaccessible. I used Disk Management to delete those partitions and afterward, the drive worked just fine. I'm curious how those extra partitions came to be so I can avoid this in the future!

You could try using Spinrite 6.1 and run it on level 2. Sometimes this software can help mount drives that are giving you trouble and might give you a chance to back up your files.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into Spinrite. I really hope I can recover my files!
