Feeling Lost in My Internship: Next Steps in Web Development?

I'm currently interning at a software company that relies on outdated accounting software and isn't working on any significant projects. I asked my boss for something to work on, and he just told me to create a website in PHP without any frameworks since they haven't adopted any modern practices. I've recently learned about the MERN tech stack and Laravel from a friend. After watching a video, I managed to build a basic website using the MERN stack. What's my next step? Also, I'm passionate about data analysis and game development, but I'm worried about job availability for those fields in Malaysia. Should I explore these areas further?

If you're looking to enhance your career, you should definitely research what's in demand in your country. Check job ads to see which tech stacks are popular and focus on learning those.

Absolutely, you should pursue what excites you! Don't let fear hold you back from exploring web development alongside your passions like data analysis and game development. They all require distinct skills, so try to tackle them at your own pace.

At your age, focusing on job-ready skills may be more beneficial. You can always learn to chase your passions later, but for now, it's important to secure a stable position.

I think it's impressive that you built a whole MERN stack app just from a video! But be cautious - these areas are quite different, and juggling them all at once can be overwhelming.

If you're not feeling fulfilled at your internship, leverage it while you can and apply elsewhere. Once you land a better opportunity, consider quitting. Keep pushing forward, growth is essential!

A combination of data engineering and data analytics skills could really broaden your opportunities. Tools like Python, Power BI, and SQL would be great to learn, and there are plenty of resources online. Stay focused; the investment you make now will likely pay off in a few years.
