Has anyone figured out what's really happening with WMIC in Windows 11 version 25H2? Microsoft mentioned that WMIC would be removed during this upgrade, but from what I've seen, it seems like that's not the case. We checked a few upgraded machines, and they still have WMIC available. However, on a fresh install of Windows 11 25H2, WMIC isn't there, but you can actually install it from Optional Features, just like with 24H2. It also appears during the installation but gets removed the first time a user logs in. From my perspective, it looks like 25H2 hasn't changed anything regarding WMIC. Am I missing something?

I still have WMIC even after doing the servicing upgrade. I noticed it still plays a role for some features, like BIOS enumeration in Defender Vulnerability Management, so it seems some tools are still relying on it.
Yeah, I remember they said WMIC would be gone in 25H2. I'll have to check if it's still there as an optional feature for my setup.
I think you're right! It seems like WMIC isn't removed if you upgrade from a previous version where it was already installed. But for clean installs, it started disappearing since 24H2. You can still find it as an optional feature though!
That's what I've been seeing too! It contradicts Microsoft's own documentation, saying it would be uninstalled during the update looking at their update notes.

It might be retained on upgrades from 24H2 to 25H2, but full upgrades from earlier versions could handle it differently.
