Help Choosing the Right CPU for RTX 5070 Ti

I'm building my own PC and I've decided on the RTX 5070 Ti as my GPU. I'm unsure about which CPU to pair it with. Initially, I thought the Ryzen 7 7800X3D would be a good choice, but I read some comments suggesting it might bottleneck the 5070 Ti, especially at 1080p. I'm planning to primarily play Counter-Strike 2 at 1080p for high FPS, but I also enjoy playing high-resolution story-driven games. What CPU should I really consider?

When people mention that the 7800X3D could bottleneck the 5070 Ti in Counter-Strike 2, they usually mean that the game is more CPU-dependent at 1080p. The 7800X3D is actually one of the top gaming CPUs currently available. It should work well with the 5070 Ti, but if you're open to spending a bit more, the 9800X3D might give you better performance for a little extra cash. Just remember, for your budget, the 7800X3D is still a solid choice!

I can’t really spare that extra $100 since I need to get a 4K monitor too.

It's important to understand that when people say the CPU might bottleneck the GPU, they mean the CPU could deliver way more frames than the GPU can output—like, hypothetically, 700 fps from the CPU but only 500 fps from the GPU. For your use case, specifically gaming at 4K most of the time, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D might not be the best fit. You might consider a 9600X instead. This way, both the CPU and GPU can potentially hit around the same frame rates and you won't waste performance. Plus, since you're planning on 4K gaming, CPU power is less critical except for that one game you’ll play at 1080p. Optimal performance is the key here!

Just to clarify, do I really need the 5070 Ti for 4K settings, or would the regular 5070 suffice? Is the price difference worth it? I’d be fine with a 2K monitor instead. 4K isn't necessary for me; I just want to enjoy story-driven games in high quality. Do you think 2K ultra settings would work well for games like Last of Us and Resident Evil?
