I'm building a PC for my teenager who's transitioning from Xbox gaming. I'm trying to figure out if M.2 drives really offer a significant performance advantage over 2.5" SATA drives. Is it worth the investment, especially considering the need to keep costs reasonable?

M.2 refers to the connector type, but what's more important is whether it's using NVMe or SATA. NVMe generally offers higher speeds, which can help in some scenarios, but for gaming, the improvement might not be very noticeable. If both options are priced similarly, I'd suggest going with an NVMe drive; they're just better overall.
