Opened a suspicious .exe file; should I reformat my PC?

Hey everyone, my mom just tried to redeem a gift card at a sketchy site that redirected her to another site. She ended up downloading a file called callguard.exe and opened it. This file is signed by Microsoft and shows up in the Microsoft Store as downloaded. I've checked it on VirusTotal, Malwarebytes, and Windows Defender, and they all show it as clean, but I'm still feeling uneasy about it. The gift card site doesn't redirect anymore. Should I just reformat my computer to be safe?

Definitely erase that drive completely if you're feeling uncertain. It's better to start fresh than risk anything!

Yeah, a complete wipe might be for the best. If you're worried about keeping files, consider using Revo Uninstaller to remove the program, then scan with Malwarebytes and Eset’s online scanner. If you still find malware, cleaning up manually or doing a clean install of Windows would be the way to go.

That site is definitely fake! You should've seen some red flags there. If uninstalling the program doesn’t work and you don't have a system restore point, you might have to reset your system.
